Introduction

I have included Sayces who were recognised for their accomplishments in their field of expertise. As these people are documented to various degrees in journals and websites, I have consolidated the information into cohesive biographies.

Richard Anthony Sayce (1917-1977)

Richard was born on 11 January 1917. He was educated at Builth County School in Breconshire, at Jesus College, and at the Sorbonne, where he spent two years, one just before the war and one just after it had ended.

George Ethelbert Sayce (1875-1953)

A journalist and newspaper proprietor; b. in Llangua, Mon., Christmas Day 1875, s. of George Sayce and his wife Athel (née Miles). He was trained in journalism and pursued literary and commercial studies at King's College, London, gaining experience as a journalist between 1898 and 1914 chiefly in Yorkshire, where he became editor of The York Observer, The Thirsk and District News, and also The Yorkshire Chronicle for a while.

Roderick Urwick Sayce (Prof.) (1890-1970)

Roderick is best known as the editor of the Powysland Club's Montgomeryshire Collections, 1930-1966, but he was also a prominent social anthropologist. He studied at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, and, after being severely wounded in the First World War, lectured in Geography to demobilised soldiers at his former college.

Archibald Henry Sayce (Rev.) (1845-1933)

Sayce was born in Shirehampton, near Bristol, on 25 September 1845. Although the start of his education was delayed due to ill health he has suffered since birth, Sayce was a quick learner. When his first tutor was appointed in 1855, he was already reading works in Latin and Ancient Greek. He began his formal education at Grosvenor College shortly after his family moved to Bath in 1858.

Conrad Harvey Sayce (1888-1994)

Conrad Harvey Sayce was born to William Jasper Sayce & Emma Maria Harvey on the 1st January 1888 in the parish St Nicholas, Hereford, Herefordshire, England. He had 4 siblings, a sister (Indiana Mabel) and 3 brothers (Marcus William, Douglas Edward and Leonard Alfred).
